Yuzen Ukiyo-e Folding Screens gTAKUMIh Using the same materials as they did in the Edo era, including Iwaenogu (painting materials made from natural ores) and paste, painters copied a hand-painted Ukiyo-e onto silk canvases called gEkinuh by a Japanese traditional technique called gAgeutsushi (a method Japanese painters use to copy paintings)h. Yuzen craftsmen then carefully finished up the paintings with their superior dyeing technique. The gTAKUMIh folding screen, which was perfected by paperhangers and lacquerers using gold foil and lacquer, displays a wide array of Japanese craftsmanship. In fact, the name gTAKUMIh came from the fact that the precious, luxurious piece is a mixture of the various artisan skills. |
